Glossary of Terms
Core Entities
Companion (Supply)
A verified Thai local who hosts experiences. Not a “tour guide”—a companion offers authentic, personal connection and local knowledge. They set their own rates and schedule.
Traveler (Demand)
A visitor to Thailand (often a digital nomad or solo traveler) seeking authentic connection and local insight. They value “vibe” over scripted history lessons.
Business Model
Commission
The fee Tirak takes from each booking.
- Tirak Commission: 15-20% (significantly lower than industry standard of 30-40%).
- Companion Take-Home: 80-85%.
Supply-First Strategy
Our marketing philosophy. We believe Supply Creates Demand. By building a high-quality, diverse pool of companions, travelers will naturally be attracted to the platform. 80% of resources go to supply acquisition and retention.
Features
Vibe-Based Matching
The core value prop for travelers. Instead of filtering by “activity” (e.g., Temple Tour), travelers filter by “vibe” (e.g., Foodie, Night Owl, Artsy, Chill). Matches are based on personality fit.
Instant Toggle
A feature for companions allowing them to turn availability on/off instantly. Supports the “gig economy” nature of the work—host when you want, stop when you’re busy.
Verified Profile
A profile that has passed ID verification (government ID check) and basic safety screening. Both companions and travelers must be verified to book.
Marketing Terms
DTC (Direct-to-Consumer)
Our launch strategy. We market directly to companions and travelers via social media (FB/IG/TikTok) rather than going through travel agencies or aggregators.
Bootstrapped
Our financial status. We are self-funded with a lean budget, necessitating high-impact, low-cost marketing strategies (like this wiki and organic social content).
